“The eyes of an animal often tell me its history. When I paint a family pet, for instance, I look for its particular spirit and personality in the eyes. At the same time I stay away from the hard rock reality of its form and look for the essence of that animal. With other smaller animals and fish, it is especially their unique color and energy that drives me. I strive to approach the truth of what they are and what they show me.”
